What is TempleDAO?
In response to the recurring boom and bust cycles in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, the founders of TempleDAO embarked on a mission to create a low-risk, best-in-market DeFi solution for investors. Recognizing the inherent volatility and risk in the typical DeFi experience, TempleDAO was established as a safe haven in the unpredictable landscape of risky assets. The primary goal was to facilitate long-term, stable wealth creation with a community-first mindset, ultimately aiming to elevate the overall DeFi experience for investors.
Core Principles of TempleDAO:
Ecosystem Growth Benefits $TEMPLE Holders: The protocol aligns incentives to ensure that the growth of the ecosystem directly benefits $TEMPLE holders.
Temple Protocol Features Reduce Volatility and Reward Long-Term Holders:
- Efforts have been invested in creating features that simplify the way holders benefit from their investments.
- The TEMPLE token's price appreciates alongside the Treasury Price Index (TPI) as the Temple treasury grows, without the need for staking or lockups.
Treasury Price Index (TPI) and RAMOS:
Treasury Price Index (TPI):
The TPI is a metric that measures stablecoin holdings in the Temple treasury. It closely tracks the stable backing per TEMPLE, excluding volatile assets. TPI is indexed to the protocol's Treasury holdings, ensuring a correlation between Temple's growth and the stability of the token.
RAMOS (Random Automated Market Operations Support):
RAMOS, the in-house AMO (Automated Market Operations) for TempleDAO, plays a crucial role in stabilizing the TEMPLE token's trading range and indexing its price to the growing Treasury. RAMOS operates on Balancer, managing the TEMPLE/BB-A-USD LP pair.
Maintaining $TEMPLE Price:
RAMOS intervenes when the token price deviates from the TPI, implementing various strategies based on the degree of deviation:
- Below 1%: Periodic rebalancing to raise the $TEMPLE price in the Balancer pool.
- Below 3%: Triggering rebalance and withdrawal of TEMPLE liquidity from the LP.
- Above 3%: Depositing $TEMPLE into the LP to recapitalize the pool or withdrawing stables as a novel bonding system.
Randomized Rebalance: RAMOS employs randomized timing and rebalancing strategies to protect against MEV attacks and front-running. Rebalances occur 2–3 times per day on average, ensuring the stability of the TEMPLE token's price.
Contract Ownership:
TempleDAO relies on a Gnosis Safe multisignature contract for administrative and treasury operations. The multisig's address is 0x4D6175d58C5AceEf30F546C0d5A557efFa53A950, with every Temple master as an owner. The protocol emphasizes ownership restrictions and non-upgradeability of smart contracts for increased security.
Pause Controls
TempleDAO introduces pause controls, allowing the multisig to pause the Temple Team Payments contract in emergencies. However, the remainder of the protocol remains immutable and forever functional, symbolizing trust and assurance even in the face of adversity.
Project Development
At the end of 2023, TempleDAO underwent a substantial update, transitioning to TempleDAO v2 to address deficiencies in its Treasury management. The update emphasized the need for a financial framework, distinct from political governance, to enhance oversight of deployed Treasury funds. Recognizing that traditional metrics like portfolio holdings and APY fell short, TempleDAO introduced equity as a key metric to objectively assess strategy performance.
The v2 Treasury framework treated strategies as borrowers, introducing a Treasury Funding Rate and leveraging the risk-free rate and risk premium rate to discount strategy returns. Equity thresholds were activated, providing levers for the Executor to refine strategy scopes based on predefined criteria. The update aimed to fill critical gaps in transparency, accountability, and risk assessment, marking a significant step towards a more informed and robust Treasury management system for TempleDAO stakeholders. Through these innovations, TempleDAO sought to empower its community with the necessary tools for strategic decision-making and effective risk management in the decentralized finance landscape.
