What is Rome?

RomeDAO is a community-driven initiative aimed at infusing excitement and enjoyment into the realm of governance. Fueled by DeFi governance principles, this currency strives to foster active community involvement in order to maintain decentralized governance. It operates as a cryptocurrency within the Kusama and Polkadot blockchain ecosystems. Kusama, acting as an experimental network under the Polkadot umbrella, serves as a testing ground for the broader Polkadot ecosystem. Additionally, the project has extended its reach to Moonriver, an EVM-compatible canary network. Moonriver, functioning as a parachain of Kusama, enables seamless cross-chain transactions.

RomeDAO pursues a range of objectives, including:

The 5 Sub-DAOs of Rome

RomeDAO has established five sub-DAOs, each symbolized by a unique house. These houses are known as the House of CHAOS, House of GRAPES, House of SEMPRONIA, House of KEK, and House of CONSULs. Each of these houses operates as an independent DAO with distinct regulations and objectives. When brought together, these houses collectively endeavor to govern the RomeDAO platform. The House of CONSULs functions as a conventional DAO, primarily concentrating on matters related to governance, economic policies, community engagement, and more.

The map will serve as the central hub for all your in-game actions within RomeDAO. Clicking on the standards (flags) displayed on the map will trigger menus and prompts, providing information about campaign status, available mini-games, and links to fully immersive experiences. The inventory menu will direct you to the armorer, where you can access a comprehensive list of the NFTs you've acquired both during and after campaigns.

RomeDAO is a community-driven initiative established by a dedicated team comprising developers, researchers, and community enthusiasts hailing from the OlympusDAO community. The ultimate aim of RomeDAO is to establish itself as the top-choice stable asset within the Moonriver and Kusama ecosystems, as well as the larger Moonriver ecosystem.

Rome Project Development

The last update from the Rome team was in June 2022 as the team supposedly planned to embark on an adventure to create a browser-based crypto RPG, pioneering an experimental concept yet to be fully realized. They are confident in their ability to introduce a substantial browser-based gaming experience to the market, one that offers both fun and engagement, distinguishing itself from the prevalent 2D pixel art and simplistic staking games. Their guiding belief is that the most exceptional games are those that weave original narratives, employing unique assets and game mechanics, rather than relying on ready-made assets and generic game engines. Furthermore, they anticipate that browser-based crypto games will surpass their desktop counterparts in terms of success.

With this vision in mind, a pivotal shift occurred within the team's role as contributors to the DAO. They transitioned from developing a straightforward staking game earlier in the year to pursue a far more ambitious vision. This shift was made possible by assembling a high-caliber team, the majority of whom are DAO volunteers drawn directly from the community. By February and March 2022, a dedicated community-led team had emerged, sharing the belief that they could create a feature-rich game by December 2022. Throughout this journey, the team acknowledges that they are essentially a community development team in the process of learning to collaborate effectively as a game studio, grappling with the challenges of onboarding, establishing workflows, and navigating asynchronous remote work.
