POWR Token

The POWR token functions as the driving force behind the Power Ledger Ecosystem, contributing to cost-effectiveness and improved electricity returns. Its interaction with the Ecosystem involves:

• Enabling governance and consumer protection through Smart Bond technology.

Power Ledger's Dual Token System

To achieve global synchronization of the Ecosystem and ensure cross-market compatibility, a second token, Sparkz, is utilized for transactions within the Ecosystem. Sparkz tokens are valued, issued, and redeemed in the local currency of the respective Platform Participant. Application Hosts gain access to the Ecosystem by purchasing an adequate amount of POWR tokens, which can then be converted to Sparkz, facilitating the onboarding of their customer base. POWR tokens are a prerequisite for generating Sparkz, and the latter functions as a local market-level token, priced according to the exchange market it is deployed in—e.g., in Australia, 1 Sparkz equals 1 cent AUD. This mechanism allows for seamless transactions throughout the FuseBox applications.

1. P2P Trading: Enables retailers to empower consumers to trade electricity directly, offering benefits such as real-time payments, clean energy selection, neighbor trading, and transparent transactions on a blockchain.
2. Neo-Retailer: Provides smart demand and supply management for Neo-retailers, ensuring almost instantaneous remuneration and payment settlements while managing consumer exposure to non-supply risks.
3. Microgrid/Embedded Network Operator/Strata: Enables electricity metering, big data acquisition, and rapid micro-transactions at a granular scale, breaking the nexus between generation ownership and consumption.
4. Wholesale Market Settlement: Offers rapid, low-cost, and transparent dispatch optimization, management, and settlement for wholesale energy marketplaces.
5. PPA Dashboard: A data management and settlement system for energy asset owners, providing visibility in Power Purchase Agreements for energy sold.

The core members of Power Ledger:

Bill Tai, a chip design expert turned venture capitalist, is Chairman of Treasure Data and on the boards of Bitfury and Voxer. He's played key roles in IPOs and served on boards of seven publicly listed startups.

Dr. Jemma Green, Chair of Power Ledger, brings 15+ years of finance and risk advisory experience, including investment banking in London. She's a research fellow, City of Perth Councilor, and Chair of Climate-KIC Australia.

David Martin, Managing Director, drives Power Ledger's daily operations and technology commercialization. With 20 years in the electricity industry, he focuses on P2P trading market acceptance and regulatory reforms.

Power Ledger Project Development

Powerledger has shifted from Ethereum-based blockchain to a proof-of-stake public blockchain for its energy and environmental trading applications. Launched on July 31, 2023, the new Powerledger blockchain, based on Solana code, offers low fees and high throughput crucial for high-frequency micro transactions in distributed energy marketplaces like peer-to-peer energy trading. The proof-of-stake and proof-of-history protocols enhance energy efficiency compared to other layer one protocols on a per-transaction basis.
