What is Bancor Network?

Bancor is a blockchain protocol aiming to encourage users to lock their crypto assets in pools, in return for a portion of the fees paid by traders when buying and selling those assets.

In doing so, Bancor aims to facilitate the functioning of automated market makers (AMMs), which are mechanisms designed to provide liquidity to markets without the need for direct management by a financial institution. In simple terms, AMMs like Bancor strive to enhance the liquidity of specialized crypto asset markets by incentivizing users to create and maintain pools of assets.

When a trade occurs on the Bancor platform, tokens are converted into BNT as an intermediate step. The liquidity providers who deposited the assets then earn a return on their funds, calculated as a percentage of the fees paid by traders.

Although Bancor shares similarities with other popular DeFi platforms such as Balancer or Uniswap, it is specifically built to offer its services across both EOS and Ethereum.

What Makes Bancor Network Unique?

While there are other blockchain-based software incorporating automated market maker (AMM) mechanisms, Bancor stands out as one of the pioneering protocols in this field. What sets Bancor apart is its ability to seamlessly convert tokens without the need for intermediaries such as financial institutions. This allows users to retain custody and ownership of their funds, simplifying the management of traded cryptocurrencies.

The distinctive aspect of Bancor extends to its technical capabilities in maintaining self-governing liquidity pools. Users can deposit their funds into these pools and earn rewards and trading fees. Moreover, Bancor establishes connections with other networks, creating an automated ecosystem for seamless trading.

Bancor Network Team Background

The Bancor project was co-founded by Galia and Guy Benartzi, with notable investors such as Tim Draper, a partner at the investment firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. In a token sale orchestrated and overseen by the Bprotocol Foundation, the project successfully raised $153 million. Approximately half of the tokens sold were allocated to over 11,000 investors, while the remaining tokens were distributed to the development team for grants and operational expenses.

Bancor has partnered with Polygon (MATIC), Synthetix (SNX), Yearn (YFI), WOO Network (WOO), Gnosis, Status, Civic, and others.

Bancor Project Developement

The Bancor Arb Fast Lane protocol has entered its beta phase and is now live! Fast Lane is a protocol that enables any user to engage in arbitrage activities between Bancor ecosystem protocols and external on-chain exchanges. By doing so, users can redirect their arbitrage profits back to the Bancor ecosystem. Unlike other decentralized exchanges (DEXs), Fast Lane allows Bancor ecosystem protocols to retain the arbitrage profits that would otherwise be lost to external entities such as arbitrage bots and MEV bots.

Thanks to the transparent and inclusive nature of Fast Lane, along with its bot framework, more users now have the ability to identify and capitalize on arbitrage opportunities. This contributes to ensuring that the liquidity within the ecosystem is traded at rates comparable to the broader market.
